blogged to a golden brown

Um, pardon me for the intrusion, but didn't we all decide not to care about what Madonna had to say about anything? There was a meeting about that where we all agreed, I'm quite sure of it.

Dear Saddam, we have something new on the table. Well, maybe not new...

From sinister to stupid; or, what if you stand to debate war with the Republicans to find they already left for the victory party? I'd say something about this, but who would hear me?

Since I'm a leftie, I should probably come clean on this: the correct answer is sinister. However, it's always been a rather benign sort of sinister. There's certainly no reason to fear I'll do something terrible like push someone out a window -- so don't go daring me to. The same goes for those voices inside my head. No dares, you guys. I mean it.

Yes, I know Montana Libertarian Stan Jones, canditate for the Senate, turned himself blue. Yes, I know it's a condition known as argyria. Yes, I'm well aware his situation is from a misapplication of colloidal silver (I'd provide a link, but you find one that isn't biased for or against). And yes, I've known of the Rosemary Jacob story for some time. After all, I sort of wrote about this stuff. Now please stop bugging me and let me get on with the serious questions, like:

Can we now claim that Libertarians are members of the "Blue Party"?

Just now implemented a new guff experiment by adding comments to posts. Thank Haloscan for the technology.

Personally, I don't consider guff a particularly comment-worthy blog, but I've been ruminating on it of late, and allowed Postman Pat to sort of nudge me into it. So click the back talk link and have at me, if you're so disposed. Note to self: remain kind to your visitors.

Blogs I've Noticed - Jody's Naked Writing is a bit of a misnomer -- there's hardly any nakedness to be seen. Still, I enjoy the occasional gander. And it helps that the potential for pornography is still there. Well, maybe not, but that's a pretty good point to make for just about anything.

"Cats are not aware of the danger of pistols."

Perhaps it's time we started teaching them. Nothing more dangerous than ignorance. And nothing as silly as being against cats on stage -- unless Andrew Lloyd Webber is behind it.

I'm in the air as I write this.

No, I'm not in a plane. No, I'm not in a helicopter. No, I'm not dangling from a hang glider. I'm just in the air. Deal with it.

Blogs I've Noticed - Alison's blog is your straightfoward Web journal. She discusses life, gets things off her chest, and apparently does whatever it takes to keep things interesting. And I probably shouldn't mention this, but I happen to have a little crush on Alison. Nothing all that serious. It certainly won't bring down on me charges of harrassment and a restraining order. I just happen to like her blog is all, so let's avoid any suggestion here of my being a stalker, all right? I don't take kindly to slander!

Well, that was quite the note of endearment, wasn't it...

The meaning of life is now available in Spanish. About time!

Damn, that Krishna is one seriously swinging Gen X hipster.

It's unfortunate when articles from The Onion are copied off their Web site and get posted by more official news outlets.

Oh, and one more before I go; Slate's Michael Steinberger is teaching people how to spit wine. No, seriously.

Wanted to note for those who notice these things: I was off-line from early this morning, hence a long delay for the BIN post, etc. I currently toe the line as a computer guest, so I occasionally make do with nothing at all. Now excuse me while I go catch up on my porn.

Blogs I've Noticed - Don Chartier is doing some small amount of good with Short and Sweet Movie Reviews, a blog as dedicated to its theme as one can be. Don notes he's not a professional movie critic, but then I'm not a professional movie goer. I prefer to do it for the achievement, and not the money.

I live in a world where Vanilla Ice can be had at the exact price as K's Choice. Same goes for Jimmie's Chicken Shack and Hooverphonic and the comic Kevin Meaney. This cannot be my world.

Livingston Taylor and Lenny Clarke are somewhat cheaper though, which makes it a little less uncomfortable for me to continue renting here.

(Link available for free off riley dog.)

Over at Slate (deep in the MSN crap, but whatever), Brendan Koerner has a short piece on those bright lights as the mortal coil unwinds.

Nothing all that interesting except that its primary aim is scientific explanations, though the bonus postscript discussses variations in religious overtones behind the lighting for Christian, Hindus, and (???) Micronesians. I'd add the experience of some atheists: annoyance over leaving their sunglasses behind.

Hey, it really is a small world, after all. And yes, I should learn the habit of sleep.

I will never, ever link to a PDF file. I'm not against the format per se, have even created and uploaded a number of them to Web servers in my time, but I now refuse to link to one from any site I'm associated with. So don't ask me to, because it isn't happening.

However, I can always be bought. Keep that in mind.

Blogs I've Noticed - Michele's a small victory is another funky, observe as much of everything as you can and on occasion rant long and hard about it kind of blog, and though I admit there's a vast number of these, this one is a bit hipper and more engaging, and is the only one I know of with a full out bursting-through-the-page superhero logo. (And it's a new logo!)

There is no logic that explains this, nor even a purpose to life now. You'll need Quicktime, but you may want to uninstall it afterwards. I did, then cleared my browser cache. Next I need to reformat the drive, burn the computer, and find a nice room somewhere away from all this.

(I blame It Makes a Difference to the Sheep for the link. Now you can blame me.)

All I can say is (please pardon the language), this is bullshit! I myself have always been a (again, pardon the language) chick with glasses sort of guy. But ladies, if you're looking to attract one of those shallow, feckless, club-hopping (OK, good looking) fellows, then by all means go with the contacts.

Did you know I was once thrown out of a pottery class for singing at the top of my lungs "Treacle treacle treacle, I made you out of clay!" No, there's no reason for you to have known that.

Some nice things to do for yourself today:

Pssst: Just like another President called George, ours never tells a lie. Pass it on.

Blogs I've Noticed - Dan's (or dan's) Dantrum over at Tiny Pineapple (or tiny pineapple) hits a resonant chord in me. It could be a not so small talent at linguistic banjo strumming. Or it could be the near fanatical obeisance to the Playful Attitude. Or it may even have to do with ananas minuscule as a domain hidey-hole.

Or maybe it's just the opportunity to ask: shouldn't it start with Demper?

While I'm laminating, here's a bit of transmittable knowledge I'd like pass on to certain members of the blogging community (they definitely know who they are):

  • Breaking text up into paragraphs is a Good Thing®.

  • And coming this week: Blogs I've Noticed ( BIN ). Each weekday (that's five days in a row!), I'll highlight a blog that recently caught my attention, for no particular reason but to make sure I post something every day. I'm sure you're all whimpering with anticipation. I know I am.

If I read one more lame article about robots which starts off by quoting Asimov's Three Laws of Robotics, I'm gonna laminate myself...

    Damn!

In regards to the ongoing fight with Congress to push through his homeland security initiatives, President Bush notes "The enemy doesn't care about these rules -- the Senate does." So true, Mr. President. And the enemy doesn't care about Democracy or the concerns of the populace, either. Guess we should go ahead and throw those out the window as well, since they have that nasty habit of getting in the way of what the President wants.
