Hey look, I posted something today. Thought I wouldn't, eh?
Heh.

Need proof that life after 9/11 goes on as normal?
Here's my evidence.

A new 9/11 victory? Ru-dy! Ru-dy! Ru-dy!

The first smiley has been
unearthed. Emoticonologists are now attempting to track how it's evolution could ever have led to
crap like this.

Hey, I have a
new best friend! And I wasn't even in the market for one. The world is a magical place.
Anyway, several more bullet points to my friend Tony, who I'm glad caught
my comments (but not the tone, which I only blame myself for):
- I am called Kafkaesquí. My friends call me Kaf. Hello, Tony.
- The site is called guff (guffzilla for the cause of the moment). No one has to take it, but this blog is all about it.
- Many of us do get it. Fret not a moment over it, new best friend.
- I agree with the tirades against the LA Times article. Pointing to yours was a slap on the back -- and yes, somewhere else as well.
- I may hit you for grammar, but trust me, I'm not a language cop. Just a drive-by grammarian. Duck and move on.
- Linked? Oh yeah, I'd say you've been linked.
- Listen only to your new best friend, Tony: Never take a walk around the block before hitting that keyboard. Let me repeat: N E V E R.
- This will be my last numbered list for a while...
Enjoy the Pop-Tart®.

Today is Friday the Thirteenth. My only fear related to this is that I'll forget what the date is tomorrow.

Jen is a dork. Or she's into music and dance. Or maybe
she's both. Hey, who knew? Not I. Still, I'd like to see her dance (but not in that sick, perverted blog-fan way).
Any time you're up this way, Jen, come on by; we'll boogie.

Finally, a cause I can, um,
grab onto. It is true that if everyone was busy doing it, there'd be no time for war.
(a sitdown salute to daiichi for haiku-ing about it)

Ev points to
Tony's rant about
the LA Times Blog story (it must be a "story", because that's the file extension they use(!)).
Just a little note from me to Tony, in the unlikelihood he actually sees this, and then only if the e-mail he sent bounced (thereby allowing him a chance to edit and resend):
- The sub-head on the article reads "Academics, journalists move the Web's raucous alternative newsletters toward the mainstream". While being a mouthful, it does demonstrate why "academics" were interviewed.
- There's this great new computer technology you should look into: auto-spell check.
- Try the Shift key once
and in* a while, especially at the beginning of sentences and for a certain nominative first person singular pronoun. Ignoring it only really worked for e. e. cummings.
- Blogosphere. (see 2 above for reference)
- If I'm talking about words, I probably reference Safire as well (in fact, I just did).
- There's no "the" in Blogger.
- Instapundit saw (over) 100,000 hits on Wednesday, not 200,000, according to Instapundit. I'm afraid I don't know of an auto-fact checker to point you to. Sorry. (Still, I wouldn't sneeze at 100,000 hits in a single day. I bet the LA Times wouldn't, either.)
- Somehow I doubt demanding loads of cash is an incentive for the LA Times to hire bloggers without any journalism experience, but then I've seen weirder schemes work out. I've even been involved in a few.
* Fixed for someone who sinks as low as I. Edit wave!

Alex Beam
joined the fray on the idea the political right has more fun. Yep, the topic everyone moved on from some weeks back. Can you keep up with the pack, Alex? Hey, but at least he's having fun with it!
All I can say is, I can't fault anyone for choosing a political ideology based on the tomfoolery ethic. Got to have ones priorities.
Oh, and Alex: I would never go for an SUV, as I prefer my little black Honda del Sol. It's so much more fun to drive.

Being serious. Considering the events of a year ago, it seems like the world tries to force it on us. However, life doesn't always have to be serious.
Neither does art.

Just posting a few interesting moments of synchronicity:
- On September 11, 1609, Henry Hudson 'discovered' Manhattan island.
- On September 11, 1773, Benjamin Franklin wrote "There never was a good war or bad peace."
I also am caught by this bit of historic linkage to last year's events:
- On September 11, 1946, the first mobile long-distance car-to-car telephone conversation took place

If you're unemployed (
ahem), head over to
toothpaste for dinner and check out the 9-08-02 images (scroll down a tad) for suggestions on how to fill your time.
I've already taken care of 1, 3 and 4, and I guess I can give 2 a shot, but I've been doing 5 for years, whether I was unemployed or not.

Jebus Cripes! To quote (as Yahoo is notorious for /dev/null-ing news over time):
"An Iranian man cut off his seven-year-old daughter's head after suspecting she had been raped by her uncle, the Jomhuri-ye Eslami newspaper said on Sunday.
"A post-mortem, however, showed the girl was still a virgin.
"...Local people have called for the man, who has been arrested, to be hanged, but under Iran's Islamic law only the father of the victim has the right to demand the death sentence."
Any chance good ole dad will demand his daughter's killer be dangled from the highest and closest tree? If anything, it shows how Allah/God/Etc. really isn't smart enough to fill giant loopholes like this one in his own laws.

I blame the Zuckers/Abrahams team for my inappropriate reaction whenever I hear someone speak on the serious medical topic of pap smears. It is just very, very wrong to be caught laughing out loud in a group composed mainly of women when those words first hit me. Damnably wrong.
I blame Fred Ward, too. However, I hold Raye Birk totally guiltless.

In regards to the defining subject matter of my

something to say.
